A little of me, a little of you! Even our location and date have significance.
Growing up, Robyn and her family would vacation to Mystic - she'd ride her bike to downtown Mystic, eat jelly beans watching the Mystic drawbridge go up, buy $1 seashells from the "seashell" lady in downtown Mystic, and get her favorite flavor burst soft serve from Sea Swirl during the summer months.
Eric grew up listening to a wide variety of music - often listening to what his parents played when all the kids had gone to bed ("Grown Up Time" it was called). Billy Joel, Boz Scaggs, and Earth Wind and Fire were a few childhood favorites. We've selected September 21st based on the Earth Wind and Fire song "September."
Our First Date
Depending on who you ask, you may get two separate answers!
Robyn says the first official date was to Jose and Sons (a southern mexican fusion restaurant) in Raleigh, NC followed by an amateur comedy show at Watts and Ward bar.
Eric is convinced that is was a bar crawl the Saturday before - Robyn thought they were just friends and the bar crawl was platonic.
A romance blossomed from the bar crawl (or comedy show - but Eric is writing this, so bar crawl) that has traveled near and far! Both Robyn and Eric have a passion for adventure and traveling, so for each other's respective birthdays - they were given trips. Robyn surprised Eric with a trip to Nashville, while Eric took Robyn back to Miami to see her best friend (and future maid of honor) Katie Kuretski.
They have been to New Hampshire and Connecticut multiple times to visit family, gone skiing in western North Carolina, and even traveled abroad to Ireland for just over a week. They have even started a tradition of collecting Christmas ornaments from each place they've visit together so that the Christmas tree will once be filled with lots of ornaments from places they've been and memories they've shared.
Adventures are nothing new to them, and they are both excited that you have decided to join them on their next greatest adventure - their marriage!
Eric took Robyn to Watch Hill, RI - they enjoyed walking around the waterfront and grabbed a cocktail at The Ocean House hotel. They stopped at Sea Swirl for one of Robyn's favorite flavor burst ice creams - and then went to Ender's Island. It's Robyn's favorite place in the whole world - a converted nunnery with elaborate gardens right on the sea. After faltering on some words, Eric got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Thankfully she said YES! (after yelling "whatttttttt???!!!!...wait....whatttttttt???!!!!" in disbelief multiple times)
Quickly they ran to the car and drove to meet their families who had been in the know for only a short time. They all shared drinks and appetizers, before Eric and Robyn left to go to a Ray LaMontagne concert.
